In Colors Project
The In Colors project started with the intention of creating new pathways for institutional approaches to collecting inclusively and intersectionally while identifying and amplifying communities that are vital to the art and cultural history of the United States through research, selection, inclusion, and amplification of people and narratives often left out from official history documenting the art world.
The first phase of the project was started under a National Endowment for the Humanities' Oral History Association Fellowship and in collaboration with the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.
The first phase of the In Colors oral history collection presently includes 18 recording sessions and 33 hours of audio, with 8 artists and one cultural worker, including narrators from the Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Haitian, El Salvadoran, Dominican, Colombian, and Mexican diasporas. This first phase also included a series of short interviews and a podcast episode series on "Healing and Belonging" for the Archive of American Art ARTiculated podcast.
